World's Fastest Indian

Mitoosense does not often recommend movies to readers. Last night was an exception. By chance I ran across a movie made in 2005 " World's Fastest Indian starring Anthony Hopkins. The movie is the true story of Burt Munro from New Zealand. Burt was born in 1899 and raised on the family farm. He was attracted to horse racing early in life until discovering motorcycles. In 1920 he purchased a 1920 Indian Scout which he owned for 56 years.
The story is based upon Burt's dream of setting a world's land and speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats in America in 1962. Burt's dream comes true at age 63 with his 1920 Indian Motorcycle. Armed with little more than a back yard workshop he built his machine to exceed speeds over 200 mph.
Burt Munro died in 1978 at 78 years of age. Three of his records still stand for motorcycles under 1000 cc. Great film if you get the chance. Anthony Hopkins bears an uncanny resemblance to the World's Land Speed Record holder Burt Munro
